Attendance and Safeguarding Manager
Nigel is responsible for attendance and safeguarding across the Bright Tribe and ALAT Trusts and for the provision of training, support and early intervention programmes designed to maintain high standards across all schools.
Nigel who joined Bright Tribe in June 2016 from Alde Valley Academy – now a Bright Tribe school – has over 20 years experience working in classrooms, Educational Behavioural Disability (EBD) units and within a Local Authority (LA) as a Senior Manager in Education Welfare (EW).
Whilst at the LA, Nigel developed a range of training programmes for schools and EW Officers on the management of attendance and its legal implications. His county portfolio spanned the setting up of procedures and initiatives to tackle Children Missing Education (CME), truancy and community awareness. He was also a member of the East of England group commissioned by the government to write a report on truancy.
Safeguarding is Nigel’s passion – a Tier 3 Designated Lead for over 15 years he has developed and delivered training on safeguarding to school staff, magistrates and other notable members.
Nigel believes that attendance plays a central role in attainment and that schools should be a safe haven for children – a place where they can be protected from child sexual exploitation (CSE), radicalisation and female genital mutilation (FGM).
